31 and Over Questions & Our Answers:

Who is your travel inspiration? Why?

Different friends and family who are out seeking their passions in life. We are happy to say we have found ours.

What’s the furthest destination (from home) that you traveled to?

Zagreb, Croatia (8,759 km)

Do you like traveling alone or with a group?

We prefer travelling alone (just the two of us) it is generally less stressful and we are both fairly easy going. That being said, we do a group travel once in awhile - probably every few trips. It is entertaining to travel with other people and sometimes we get to try things we wouldn't normally of had it been just the two of us.

Have you traveled to a place you couldn’t wait to get out of?

Nothing against Rome, but when we went in the summer of 2015, we couldn't wait for our bus to get us out of there. It was smouldering hot. The Colosseum is a massive tourist trap as you'd expect. We were getting constantly hounded by people trying to sell us sunglasses, scarfs and selfie sticks. Saying no wasn't enough to get rid of them, you had repeat it over and over. Tensions were high around the Colosseum, we saw a tourist punch a pickpocket in the face for attempting to steal his girlfriend's watch.

Can you give one hidden gem (name of the place and where it can be found) you’ve stumbled into that you would like to share?

We often talk about Nottingham being a hidden gem of England. Here you can find BATMAN's house as well as a video game arcade and of course Robin Hood.

What’s the most amazing thing that happened to you while traveling?

That would probably be when we went on a kayaking trip a few years ago and got to witness orca's swimming very close by. We also had to do a blind crossing to get back, which was very scary. This trip was pretty life changing for us.

How about the scariest thing?

When we arrived in Cuba we got in a car accident within minutes of being in the country. We were pretty bummed out for the first few days. You can read about our disastrous of a holiday here - "Disastrously Positive Cuban Vacation"

Can you name a city or country you always find yourself coming back to?

We have a rule that we wont go back to the same place twice. Why? because we met a couple on our honey moon that said that you either ruin your first trip because your second trip is better, or you ruin your second trip because you compare it to the first time. We have broken this rule a few times. We fell in love with Scotland. We have been back to Glasgow and Edinburgh twice and we have another trip around Scotland planned soon.

What were/are your travel misconceptions which you have proven wrong – if there are any?

'Hostels are cheap' While this may be the case for solo travellers who are willing to share 5 to 8 bed dorm rooms, this is not the case for us. We have calculated how much it would cost for us to stay at a hostel and it only works out to be £15-£20 cheaper than getting a hotel with our own private room with ensuite and breakfast buffet in the morning.

Are you more of a sea or mountain person?

We both grew up on an island surrounded by the ocean. It doesn't matter how amazing the place is, the sea always calls out to us.

What’s on the top of your bucket list that you haven’t done yet?

Road trip across Canada.
