Packing For a Two Year Adventure
Today's post is "What we packed to move for two years"
We packed two medium size suitcases and two regular sized backpacks and set off to England for two years. We basically packed the essentials. We made sure not to overfill our bags as we know we will be taking more stuff back to Canada with us.

I stink at packing, so this comes in handy for me! I hope you enjoy your adventure.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Unfortunately we head back in a month. Two years went by fast!
DeleteI got a little thrill out of noticing that you'd forgotten a crochet hook. When I was little, I begged my grandmother until she taught me to crochet, and I've made lots of things since then. I don't know any other yarn crafters in real life though, so it always gives me a jolt to encounter someone else who likes it.
ReplyDeleteHaha. That is great. Yeah I ended up buying a multipack of all sizes.
DeleteThat is really helpful! I am terrible at overpacking and I feel like I would have overpacked for a 2 year trip!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear! We were aiming at underpacking rather than overpacking.
DeleteAwesome list. How was it? the trill of packing for such a great adventure?
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was a little nerve wreaking. It all worked out for the best.
DeleteIt's definitely important to have the clothes that you need and some extra. I like that you packed just the essentials and just purchased what you needed when you got there. It saves so much space and you have less to carry.
ReplyDeleteWell we figured we would be able to do some laundry!
DeleteI remember when I moved to the UK from Finland - I had one suitcase with a weeks worth of clothes and a toothbrush. That's it. That's all I had. And it definitely wasn't enough. I'd do it all differently next time :D

We thought two weeks would be sufficient. It was for us. That is still all we have.
DeleteI can't packed that little and with only 2 suitcases. I had a lot of personal things to bring and my clothes were too many and I can't afford to leave them and not wearing it for two years. lol
ReplyDeleteThat was for two people! :)
DeleteThis is a great list. I love the idea of being an expat but it'll have to wait a bit until our kids finish college. Gotta keep them whole in state tuition.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Hope you get to be an expat at some point in your life.
DeleteAhhh 2 years far from home and routine !! discovering other places, i would love to do that but work don't allow me right now !! may be it will be in the future and we will know that day how to pick up with us for the trip :)
ReplyDeleteYeah work tends to get in the way. We had to quit our jobs to do this.
Deletehahaha, this was so funny! I am a horrible packer, I literally pack the entire house when I am traveling. I was hooting all over the place, reading your travel list! I must try this for my next trip.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Wishing you luck in your packing adventures.
DeleteWow, you really did pack only the essentials. I don't think I'd survive. Would have come back with way more than I left with for sure!
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping to come home with half of what we brought! One suitcase between the two of us.
DeleteWow! Two suitcases each for a two year adventure is amazing! I like to travel light but always pack things I do not use in the end.
ReplyDeleteEven with how light we packed, we still didn't need everything.
DeleteThis is so awesome to read! Love the list - as an expat you love the thought of reliving your memories!
ReplyDeleteThanks. We sure do. That is the main reason we started our blog. :)
DeleteMy husband always packs for our trips. I dump the things and he makes sure to pack them efficiently.
ReplyDeletehaha, always a good idea.
Deletei always forget something when packing. i can't imagine that's all you packed for that long. i pack more than that for a week trip.
ReplyDeleteWe only packed what we needed.
DeleteI found this very interesting because I feel I would've packed a lot more! I'm glad to read that I don't need to!
ReplyDeleteEverybody is different. We just find we like to travel light, so we need to pack the bare minimum.
