Working Hard to Make Our Dreams Come True

If you missed last month's update, find it here: "Driving Across CANADA"

This month we decided to share our experience living in our SUV. If you are planning a long road trip and are considering 'Car Camping' you should consider reading our post "Should You Live in Your Vehicle" to give you an idea of what to expect.

We got back to the island on July 30th. We were quite tired from our road trip across Canada, and our savings was a little empty. We had seen more than we thought we would across Canada and were happy to be 'back'. Whatever that really means. We need to come up with some sort of game plan, now. We have some ideas of where we want to live, but nothing is set in stone. Luckily one of us got a job starting the day after we returned! It is also nice to see the kitties all snuggled up now that we are back.

We stopped in Victoria on our way back for a little visit. We stopped at Very Good Butchers for some soft serve ice cream but we were very disappointed in the outcome. *Trying to fake a smile there.
One of us stopped by Sushi Ryu, but were unpleasantly surprised that the salad dressing isn't vegan.. even though they told us last time it was. Just play it safe and get a plate of veggie sushi. (I always make sure to say without sauces)
We are also trying to be more healthy. Mind and body. We did a lot of reading on our road trip and want to keep that as part of our routine. We have also been on a huge salad kick. Fruit and veggie salads every day!
We went to Asteras for a family dinner. The vegan option is their Marouli Salad and hummus and pita (Ask for it without butter)
This month it was also our wedding anniversary. We chose to go to Gateway to India as they have plenty of vegan options and everything is always delicious. We got the Veggie Pakora, Chana Masala and Aloo Gobi.
Since one of us has been working, the other has been busy writing our trip across Canada blogs, and also being a tourist on the island. I spent a couple days with my mother as we explored.
We made it to Chemainus, Duncan and explored locally too. Only getting lost a little bit, but that story is for another time.
We also stopped for lunch at Tomo Sushi. A sushi restaurant we used to go to once a week when we lived on Vancouver Island.
One thing that is fun about being in a different country, is the different vegan products around. Since we had been living in England for two years, we missed the release of a lot of vegan products here. These chips were delicious, and we think this Chao cheese may be the same as the violife we used to buy in England (or very similar).
This month our vegan guide is for Munich, Germany.  (Remember we share a new Vegan Guide the second Sunday of every month). Next month is Prague, Czech Republic. Check back Sept 10th.

A positive with one of us working is the other gets to go out and eat delicious food! We can't have a vegan travel blog without trying out all the food in different restaurants!
Mom and I went to Sushi Wara. They have two locations on the island.
They have very fresh tasting sushi, and order the agedashi tofu! Yum!

Unfortunately, or fortunately?? - You choose. The other half of Wanderlust Vegans found work. (There goes all my taste testing in the city!) We did celebrate by going to The Vault and having their vegan breakfast wrap though! It was pretty expensive, but it did hit the spot. Plus, now we will have more money for finding amazing vegan food!
One thing we love about summer is the fresh black berries! We have picked more than our share, but if nobody else gets out there, we will have to get some more. We have been adding them to our morning oatmeal, and freezing them for smoothies. These adorable little dogs were waiting for their 'owner' while I was having my lunch at work. They were so precious, I'm surprised somebody didn't walk away with them!

Saturday evening we met up with a couple of our vegan friends and went to Gateway to India. They saw our anniversary dinner and wanted to go! We ordered 4 curries to share, starters and had some alcoholic beverages. It was a great evening.

For our travel tips this month we shared our secrets on 'How to Plan a LONG Road Trip' (Remember to check back the third Sunday of every month for more travel tips from us.)

One evening after work we went for a lovely walk around Westwood lake with a friend of ours. The hike is just over 6km and we got to watch the sun set. It was a lovely evening.

With both of us working now, we don't have a lot of time together. One of us works Mon-Fri 8-4pm. The other is all over the place with most shifts being 12-9pm and working every weekend. The last couple of days we had some free evenings together though. We went for a 1.5hour bike ride (Which won't be happening again! Feel like we have been hit by a bus!) and another evening we went out for dinner at one of our regular sushi places.

We are loving the response from our Spotlight Series. This month we started our second spotlight and it is on Vancouver Island. 'Spotlight' is our newest series that we post the fourth Sunday of every month. This month, we are talking about "From Chemainus and Duncan to the Abyss"

My cousin came up for the week from Victoria and we went on a Girl Day. We stopped in Parksville for lunch on the beach, explored Coombs and hiked Englishmen River Falls. We ended the day with shopping and sushi!

Stay tuned for what shenanigans we have planned for next month!
