Girls Day: Parksville Beach, Coombs, and Englishmen River Falls.

Travel Diary

Since we have been back on Vancouver Island, we have both been working full-time. Leaving us with no time together to explore. Luckily, there are people in my life that are off during the week and can go exploring. This is our Girls Day up the island. My aunt, cousin, mother and I all went for a drive north.

We stopped at Subway along the way to grab some lunch. (Vegans can get a veggie or falafel sub on Italian. Instead of cheese add Guacamole. Get all the veggies, some mustard and the house sauce) We went to Parksville Beach to enjoy our lunch.

Parksville Beach is quite a popular place to be any time of year. It's just so beautiful. There was a lot of kids swimming, picnics and people flying kites. Next to the beach is a water park with food vendors as well. There is also a large field to kick around a soccer ball or something. You can easily spend the whole day here.

But that's not what we had in store. We finished our sandwiches, got our pictures and hit the road.

Next stop was Coombs. Coombs is about a 15 - 20 minute drive NW of Parksville Beach. Here you will find different shops, candy stores, used books, and a market
They also have large statues everywhere which people will pose with.
Which is obviously what we did while playing tourist.
You can see how big they really are.

There is a really old car that used to have a huge gorilla in it to drive with. They seem to have taken that away, but now we all fit in the old car!
We explored inside some of the shops. These wood carvings are really cool. A lot of them are not for sale though.
Look at this cool chair!

We went in the market, but we didn't end of buying anything though.
Oh, and did I mention that there are goats on the roof?
We looked around Coombs for a couple hours then carried on our way.
We went further West to Englishmen River Falls. It is a provincial park where you can camp at or just hike around the river. The falls are gorgeous any time of year and well worth a visit.

The upper falls are located right near the parking and are easily accessible.

Just beautiful.
We did a tiny bit of hiking up the river. But we were getting hungry for some dinner.
We made our way back to Nanaimo and went and did a bit of shopping. Then met my other aunt at Sushi Ryu for some dinner. (Order the agedashi tofu, avocado roll, asparagus roll and veggie roll. Start with some edamame)
We had a wonderful Girls Day! It was a great little day trip to end the summer off.

  1. Vancouver Island is deffo on my travel hit list - will have to check those posts out. Looks like you had a fun girls day out.

  2. I loved the owl sculptures! And those waterfalls and creeks seem so tempting to visit!

  3. Looks like my kind of girls' day trip-I will always opt for greenery and a body of water (or moving water) above all other choices! :)

  4. It's always great to spend some time with the people you love most (family, friends...). Looks like you had a great time in a beautiful natural place! I also have to plan something like this :)

  5. The beach looks great, an ideal getaway for family and friends. The goats on the roof are really fascinating. I can see that you girls really had a great time.

  6. This is the first time I have read about anywhere on Vancouver Island other than Victoria. Those waterfalls are stunning. I hope to see more posts from other parts of the Island too!

  7. Parksville Beach and Englishmen River Falls look absolutely beautiful! I'm from Vancouver and this definitely makes me wanna plan a weekend trip to the islands ASAP.

  8. That is a scenic and charming place. The waterfalls is interesting; this is the first time I've seen the water falls into a very narrow crevice. Pretty town to visit. :)
