STREET ART and GRAFFITI OF BIRMINGHAM

Last month we gave you the Ultimate Guide to Birmingham. This month we are talking about street art in Brum. One thing we enjoyed about walking around Birmingham is the street art everywhere, especially in Digbeth. Digbeth is known as Birmingham's cultural quarter with many creative exhibitions and music venues around.

Most of the great street art seems to be concentrated in Digbeth. There are many buildings around that are either abandoned or the owners don't mind having graffiti there.
There is all sorts of different styles of street art and it's fun searching for it and finding your favourites.
Some of the art is tagging and some of it is "out there" and unusual.

It's something that makes the city look a lot more interesting in our opinion but to others it is an eye sore which is a shame. Art is subjective.
This Spock stencil didn't last long. We went to see it again and it was painted over. You have to take pictures while you can.
The Custard Factory in Digbeth has a parking area covered in high quality street art. It's definitely one of the attractions of the neighbourhood and a reason that people will enjoy visiting Birmingham.

Do you enjoy taking pictures of street art? Where is your favourite place to find art? Do you prefer art galleries or the art on the streets?

  4. Street art is always a great thing to explore. We've got a lot of it here in Denver. I recently learned they re-do it every year to be different and new!

  5. I love coming across street art or graffiti on side streets sporadically. It really does add to the character of the area and often depicts some history. Of course, it doesn't fit the aesthetic of all areas, but I do enjoy spotting more cultural urban art.

    1. Yeah, it does look better in some places and others not as classy. Birmingham is trying to be a 'hip' place, so we felt it fit in well.

  6. I'm a huge street art fan. Huge. I love the tie mural! Sad the stencil was painted over. Artist usually have a sense where they can paint and where it is not appreciated.
