Food, Friends and Festivities.
If you missed last month's post, find it here: "Up and Autumn! 2015"
We kicked off the month of November with a wonderful pizza night with the Birmingham Vegans. Again, I probably say this every month, but we love this pizza (!!) and the great company that comes with pizza night. We enjoy how the Birmingham Vegans put on a monthly pizza night. It gets us out of the house and socialising with other people who have the same views as us.
One great thing we found out this month is that the Mint Crème chocolate bar at Aldi is accidentally vegan. It's a fantastic cheap chocolate bar for mint fans.
After work one night we decided to go out for dinner. When we lived in Canada, we tried to go out every Friday for date night. Now that we have got into the swing of things living here, we have started to try and bring back our date nights. We went to Wagamama because we heard they have vegan options.
The food at Wagamamas was really good, and we will be returning again. It's also nice that we tried Wagamama's because it's a chain restaurant and we will be able to go to it in other cities in England if we can't find other places to eat. That evening we had drinks with our flatmate and chatted into the wee hours of the night. The rest of the weekend we spent relaxing.
For meat free monday we made our way to "Vegan Grindhouse take over the Mockingbird" for the second time. The food was great, but we did have to wait awhile to receive our food. They told us they had forgot to put in our order which was an honest mistake. We had one of our friends meet us there for dessert which was also kind of a waiting game. They only brought out 2 of our 3 desserts and forgot about the third.

As the week went on, Birmingham City Centre started to set up for the German Christmas Market that they have every year.

We did end up planning a weekend trip with 3 of our friends and that will be taking place in December, so make sure to come back and check out that blog post.
Now that Christmas is in the air in England, all of the fancy English food is making its way to the shelves. We heard a lot about Christmas Pudding. We decided to join in on the Christmas traditions, vegan style. We bought vegan Christmas Pudding and some vegan custard. We made ourselves a vegan dessert and it was delicious.

The next weekend we were invited to attend another Birmingham Vegans meal. We met at an Indian restaurant called Deepalis to hang out with 27 other vegans or vegan curious folk. On the way to dinner we had joked about how long it took to get our food at Vegan Grindhouse. Little did we know what we had in store.
We played games at dinner and enjoyed meeting new people. Dinner was taking awhile but since we knew there was 27 of us we expected a bit of a wait. We weren't too concerned at first. That was until it had been 3 hours and we still hadn't received our main courses. We hadn't ordered any starters so we were getting very hungry. By the time we received our food we had been waiting for 4 hours.
Not everyone had to wait for 4 hours, but some of us did. People's order were coming out sporadically. Some people had to leave before getting their dinner otherwise they would have missed the last train home. While dinner tasted great, the restaurant was not equipped to handle a group that large. We will consider returning to that restaurant, but never with a group that large.
The next day, our friend Plant Based Nurse, and 2 of our other friends went into Kings Heath to go to the Purely Vegan Store. They have been around for awhile but Kings Heath is kinda out of the way for us. It's a great store though.

After we went to the Vegan store, we went on our journey through Middle Earth as we called it. It was a great day.
The next Monday we made our way to The Church with a group of our Vegan friends. The Church is a pub in the Jewellery Quarter that specializes in Soul Food. We wanted to support The Church on its Meat Free Mondays. They offer all of their vegan and vegetarian dishes for 50% off.

Tuesday the 17th we had tickets for the Wavves concert at the O2 Institute. I was sick and gave my ticket to our flatmate so only 1/2 of wanderlust vegans enjoyed the show that night.
We wrote a blog on Minimalism to show how it has improved our lives. We hope the blog post is helpful for others who are interested in living more, with less.
We also wrote a blog this month on why we moved to England. We had a lot of people asking us why would we move abroad, and why would we choose England of all places.
For the rest of the week we relaxed, watched movies and tried to get healthier again. We watched the Amazon Prime TV series "Bosch" It is a police show and it was well worth the watch. Unfortunately they only have one season, and we enjoyed the show so much we wished the second season was already out.

On Wednesday we realised that the coupon we had to Handmade Burger Co. expired that very day. Not wanting to waste a perfectly valid coupon we met up and walked to Handmade Burger Co. again for another buy one get a second for a pound burger. We passed by the Christmas set up in city centre on the way there.

On Friday a couple of our friends came over and we planned a week away in December with them! Whooohoo, another trip planned! We think it will be quite fun to go on holiday with some friends we met here.
On Saturday my coworker was in a play. Being a supportive coworker, I gathered a few of my vegan friends to go see the play. The play was quite good and some of the actors were really talented. After the play we went with one of our friends to our favourite place.. Cherry Reds. We ordered some drinks and chatted until 1am. They also had vegan Red Velvet cake!! Yum, we haven't had Red Velvet cake since before we became vegan. It was amazing.

On Sunday we had some of our vegan friends over for a crochet party. I did a beginners class on the basics of crochet. It was a fun filled night with yarn and chocolate.
To wrap up November we attended another Meat Free Monday at Mocking Bird. Vegan Grindhouse took over the kitchen again. Today they did an open mic night as well which was really fun. The food came out really fast this time and was great.
This is a video of one of his songs from a different night.
Check out his website.
Well that is another month come and gone living in the United Kingdom. We now look forward to December as we have a lot planned.
