And We're Off!

March 19 & 20, 2015

To save money on our flight, we booked it ourselves on Expedia. If you go to Google Flights you can search your destination and it will generate suggestions on days that it's cheaper to fly. We picked March 19th, which was 19 days after we were allowed to move to the UK, simply because it was nearly half the price.

We had a great flight direct from Vancouver to London-Gatwick through Air Transat. We abandoned our plan of sleeping the entire flight once we discovered all of the free movies offered. We watched Horrible Bosses 2, Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 and Gone Girl. After the movies we had a nap and then soon enough we landed in Gatwick Airport. The airport was small and we went through customs fast. Our friends picked us up and we began to regret not sleeping as we struggled to stay awake while talking to our friends in the car.

Vegan meal on Air Transat

To request a vegan meal on the flight we had to call 00 800 872 672 83 for Air Transat customer service and let them know we both required a vegan meal while flying with them. They were happy to put in the request for us. We were happy with the outcome of our
meal. It helps to call ahead to ensure you will have food available.

We tried to stay awake as long as possible but took an hour long nap before heading to the supermarket to get some food.
We bought two types of vegan burgers, tea, soy milk and cereal. As well as fruit and rice.
After we dropped off the food we went to a pub for a pint with our friends.
The Angel pub in Dorset

We got drinks to celebrate our new adventure in England. We weren't all that hungry but we hadn't eaten all day, so we just ordered chips. It was pretty cool that they came in a tin.

Afterwards we headed back to our friends place and tried to stay up as late as possible but only managed to make it till 7:30 and 9:00pm.

Thank you for reading. To find out what we got up to next, check out our post "Fun on the Coast"

  1. The chips in the tin were a cute idea and it looks like a pub type of food. Thanks for the tip to call ahead to get food accommodations for flights.

  2. That happens to me a lot. I would end up not being able to sleep during the flight and regret it instantly after landing. Lol. It's quite fun though, I'm sure you were excited about moving to a new place.

    1. Yeah we were quite excited. Plus it is difficult to sleep on a plane.

  5. Sounds like too much trouble just to get a vegan meal in some places. My sister who is a vegan told me she has to be careful she gets the proper nutrients.

    1. We have never had any problems with not getting proper nutrients and we have been vegan for 7 years. It is never too much trouble to live a compassionate lifestyle.
